The Apprenticeship Levy
Introduction
It is the NFB’s stated policy that the Apprenticeship Levy, introduced by law in 2016, is not fit for purpose and requires reform. Following the election of the Labour Government, that reform is now coming and this article sets out what we can expect that to mean and when.
NFB’s Position and Lobbying
In February 2023 the NFB published a policy paper, ‘Leveraging the Levy’ detailing our concerns and proposals for change. Our policy team have since been actively engaged in promoting this to the then government and to the then opposition. We submitted this to the political teams of each party, submitted it in budget and financial statement consultations, to the Department for Education, a number of Ministers and Herman (our MCG Chair) and I met Bridget Philipson, who is now the Secretary of State for Education to present the report.
