Delivering 1.5 million homes – Rayner on housing targets
Answering questions from the Commons Select Committee on 7 January MHCLG’s Secretary of State, Angela Rayner, was asked whether changes to the standard method for assessing housing need in the newly revised NPPF (370,000 homes pa) meant that the government might be prepared to “look again” at its 370,000 p.a. goal and perhaps increase it as “it may not be high enough”.
She agreed it was “ a stretched target” but one which she was “determined personally” to meet – or even exceed – in some areas. (Note: Rayner previously called it a stretched target on 28 November, echoing remarks by the Housing and Planning Minister on 20 November – see HBA Newsletter issue 24, 2024).
