Housing Minister Updates on Government’s Housing Programme

In a Ministerial Statement of 13 February, the Housing Minister, Matthew Pennycook, updated MPs on “the next generation of new towns”, the New Homes Accelerator and regeneration funding.

New Towns

Pennycook said his statement followed the establishment of an independent New Towns Taskforce last September. Its members were to identify and recommend locations for new towns within 12 months.

It had made significant progress over the past five months, with over 100 submissions received from every English region.

Vision and aims: the Taskforce had now published an update on its work, setting out the vision and aims of the programme and a comprehensive review of the three phases of the post-war new towns programme.
