Introduction
RIDDOR is the law that mandates employers and those in control of work premises to report and keep records of:
- Work-related accidents causing death
- Work-related accidents causing specific serious injuries (reportable injuries)
- Diagnosed cases of certain industrial diseases
- Certain ‘dangerous occurrences’ (near-miss incidents with the potential to cause harm)
Special requirements exist for gas incidents.
Changes in RIDDOR
As of October 1, 2013, RIDDOR 2013 introduced significant changes:
- Simplified reporting requirements for major injuries, now specified as a shorter list of ‘specified injuries’
- Reduced list of reportable industrial diseases from 47 to 8 categories
- Fewer types of dangerous occurrences require reporting
Reporting requirements remain unchanged for:
- Fatal accidents
